Every February 14th, Valentine's Day is celebrated with enthusiasm and joy, highlighting the importance of love and friendship.

Valentine’s Day is celebrated across many countries worldwide with great enthusiasm and joy. This special day highlights the importance of love, and despite the belief in its commercial origins, its history dates back much further, to the 3rd century in Rome, with the death of Valentine, a priest sentenced for secretly performing marriages for young lovers.

This day has adopted many names: Valentine’s Day, Lovers’ Day, or the Day of Love and Friendship. But where did this particular celebration originate?

This holiday, embraced by the Catholic Church, dates back to the 3rd century in Rome, where a priest named Valentine opposed Emperor Claudius II’s decree that banned marriages for young people, believing that single soldiers would be better warriors without family ties.

In opposition to the emperor’s decree, Valentine secretly performed marriages for young lovers, which led to him being sentenced to death on February 14th, 270.

This act of love and courage is why Valentine’s Day is commemorated every year.

At Se Llama Peru, we know that food has the power to create unforgettable memories. That’s why we recommend some of our most special dishes to celebrate Valentine’s Day:

  • Mixed Ceviche: A fresh and vibrant dish, perfect for starting your celebration. With fish and seafood marinated in lime juice and chili, this dish offers an explosion of flavors that will make you feel closer to the Peruvian coast.
  • Lomo Saltado: If you prefer a heartier option, don’t miss our lomo saltado. This Peruvian classic, which combines beef, onions, tomatoes, and crispy fries, is ideal for sharing with someone special.
  • Crema Volteada: Finish your meal with one of Peru’s most traditional desserts. Crema volteada is a smooth and creamy sweet, perfect to end any special occasion.
  • Inca Kola: To accompany these delicious dishes, enjoy the refreshing Inca Kola, a drink that has become a true emblem of Peru. Its unique flavor will perfectly complement your meal.
