Peruvian Cajón Day: Rhythm, Culture & Cuisine at Se Llama Peru

Each August 2, Peru celebrates Peruvian Cajón Day, honoring this instrument as National Cultural Heritage.
At Se Llama Peru, we turn this tradition into a culinary and cultural experience—music, flavor, and history all in one place—making us one of the top Peruvian food restaurants in Salt Lake City, offering THE BEST Peruvian Food in Salt Lake City.

History of the Peruvian Cajón

The Peruvian cajón was born during colonial times when enslaved Africans, banned from playing drums, created rhythms using wooden boxes.
It was declared National Cultural Heritage in 2001, and in 2014 the OAS named it “Instrument of Peru for the Americas.”
